There are also hotels which are within Bethlehem but require a short walk to the major sites. Many tourists choose to stay in a Jerusalem hotel and make a short day tour to Bethlehem but there are certain disadvantages to doing this.
Firstly your visit to Bethlehem will be brief and if you stay at a Bethlehem hotel you can really soak up the atmosphere of the city. Secondly staying in a Bethlehem hotel as opposed to a Jerusalem hotel is much, much cheaper.
There is a constant presence of Tourist Police to protect and preserve the peace in the city and the city is relatively safe. The city thrives on the tourist industry and so residents keep the city pleasant and safe for tourists to preserve the city’s livelihood. In Bethlehem you will find stores, restaurants and all the amenities you could want, Bethlehem is also only 10km from Jerusalem.
Bethlehem Hotels close to the Church of the Nativity
Some of the better known Bethlehem hotels include the Angel Hotel which is less than a kilometer from Manger Square. It is a 4 star luxury hotel which has single, double and triple rooms. The Angel Hotel also has a roof top restaurant with stunning views and there is free WiFi. The Bethlehem Hotel is relatively new and located only half a kilometer from the Church of the Nativity and Manger Square.
There is a restaurant, meeting facilities and a coffee bar. There is also the Bethlehem Star Inn, a 3 star hotel located on the highest point of the city and within a 6 minute walk from the center and it is close to the shopping area. The rooms are simple but well kept and there are single, double and triple rooms. Sancta Maria Hotel is also centrally located and the rooms have balconies overlooking the city, there is a bar, two restaurants and a business center. Paradise Hotel is on Manger Street close to Manger Square and boasts personal service.
From Nativity Bells Hotel you can see the bells of the Nativity Church, it is located on Nativity Street, perfect for those wanting to be close to the birth place of Jesus. Mount David Hotel is another hotel within walking distance of the Church of the Nativity and offers comfortable spacious rooms.
Other Bethlehem Hotels
If you are on a tight budget there is the Bethlehem Youth Hostel within an old Ottoman house it is a 5 minute walk from Manger Square and offers mixed dorms and an international crowd. Beit Ummar Hostel is another Bethlehem accommodation option. The Alternative Tourist Group can arrange homestays and B&Bs for short or long periods, this is great for getting to know the locals.
Bethlehem also has several fine guesthouses which are friendly and generally cheaper that the hotels. Some of the most popular Bethlehem guesthouses are Saint Elias Guesthouse (the newest in the city but a 15 minute drive to the center), Talita Kumi Guesthouse and the House of Hope Guesthouse.
The only 5 star hotel in Bethlehem, and the one dignitaries usually choose is the Jacir Palace Intercontinental Hotel Bethlehem. Here you will get excellent cuisine, good service and facilities fitting a 5 star hotel anywhere in the world.
A double room costs approximately $178 a night. On the outskirts of Bethlehem is another fine hotel, this time a 4 star hotel. The Murad Tourist Resort has swimming pools, landscaped gardens, kid’s playgrounds, spa facilities and even Turkish baths. A double room costs $132 a night in this Bethlehem resort.
